It will only let me select YES once

I know this has been a issue for a long time . People would really like to see a screen saver section but there are problems with viruses when it comes to these type of apps.
I am hoping very much that this poll is on here because it is actually being considered and that a way has been found for the submissions to be check throughly for viruses before they are downloaded.
Good and free screen savers are very hard to find. Yes, I understand that a lot of work is put into these and that wanting them for free is asking a lot. I also figure though that a lot more work is involved in making a WB so it may not be too much to ask for.
As for looking over other sites for free screen savers, it is a very scary place to go. Way too many chances are taken and you never know what or where things are or going to be installed on your computer.
Please, please create this section so that we have a safe place to download screen savers and with the talent we have here I am certain that they will also be the best ones available.

I'm against using screensavers....no need for them anymore and why would WC risk the chance of some malicious script being downloaded from thier site.

Essencay thinks Karmagirl is on to something with this paperbag-monitor thing....that wb skin was so ugly

I was once told that the newer monitors (CRT, LCD, TFT, etc) do not need screensavers as they are built different then the older monitors and images do not get "burned" into them. Also as Karmagirl stated, most monitors have a auto power down feature. The whole reason for a screensaver in the past was to make sure a image would not get "burned" into the monitor. Personally I do not use any screensavers save the built in "Windows XP" that flashes across the screen. I also have it set to turn off monitor after 5 minutes. But i believe I voted to have a screensaver section because I knew I used to be fond of neat screensavers like afterdark.

My new monitor does not need the use of a screen saver but I just love them so I still use them.

What is the point of screensavers? If my pc is on I'm using it. If it's off I'm not. So, what does a screensaver do???

If there's to be a new section I'd get more cheer from a kJofol one...

I'm with Keila on this...I have an lcd screen so I really don't need a screensaver...they just look cool. And the aquarium screensaver is great because I don't have to feed the fish or clean the tank.

And the water stays clear...

Now if Stardock CREATED a program for screensavers that would make it so that you would not have to download an executable to change the way it looks... now you got an idea.

Exactly. My screensaver can be darned cool with ability to script stuff. It's pretty hard to do, however. You can check out samples included with my screensaver, just edit em in notepad.

i for one would not want a screen savers section .. ive seen to many screen savers that had spyware etc. in them.. it IMO would be a un necessary hastle for the admins who already bust their hineys making this a great site...besides .. when i get up from my PC i hit the stand by button on my monitor. no need for a screen saver

Seeing as how the screensaver poll is moving steadily in favor of a section, I'd make it so that only WC subscribers could upload and download. Puts that "We'll know where you live" feeling out there to anyone that would think about uploading a bad screensaver and it would keep the section from using as much bandwidth as it would being available to everyone.

screen savers are resource hogs if there ever was one....

for those with 512 meg and less memory...

Looks like some people can't understand what they read.
There won't be a SS section.
More than 1 admin/mod has told you why.

Well, I rather they'd be no screensaver section. Unless, as somebody else mentionned, there was a Stardock program that allowed for non-executable screensavers.

As it is, I have two issues regarding this:
- malicious code (virii)
- copyright issues

A screensaver is not exactly something easy to make. How many people will actually build their screensaver from scratch?

I see there are good reasons for the Yeahs and Nays here but one comment idea really stuck out to me.

This would be a great way for the site to do this if it was done.
Screen savers are hard to find as we all know. A trust worthy place to get them (not just one at the cost) plus support a site. Wonderful!
