It will only let me select YES once

I know this has been a issue for a long time . People would really like to see a screen saver section but there are problems with viruses when it comes to these type of apps.
I am hoping very much that this poll is on here because it is actually being considered and that a way has been found for the submissions to be check throughly for viruses before they are downloaded.
Good and free screen savers are very hard to find. Yes, I understand that a lot of work is put into these and that wanting them for free is asking a lot. I also figure though that a lot more work is involved in making a WB so it may not be too much to ask for.
As for looking over other sites for free screen savers, it is a very scary place to go. Way too many chances are taken and you never know what or where things are or going to be installed on your computer.
Please, please create this section so that we have a safe place to download screen savers and with the talent we have here I am certain that they will also be the best ones available.

As it is, I have two issues regarding this:
- malicious code (virii)
- copyright issues

If you are worried about viruses how about something like XXSvgSaver that have data files ( graphics, animation, etc ) separate from the program itself. Then it's more like the skinned program, but you skin the entire screen.

BTW, XXSvgSaver has some darned good "skins" and I'm not even a expert. In the hands of expert skinner, after some learning how to edit and use SVG format, can be amazing good.

Scribe Essencay -
Seeing as how the screensaver poll is moving steadily in favor of a section, I'd make it so that only WC subscribers could upload and download...An excellent idea....Possiably adding an antivrus program and anti trojan program would elimanate the risk..Using the free AVG antivirus everything I download is sent to one folder only and inspected before any exe files are opened..I also scan with A-squared, a free antitrojan program. So cost and feasability would need to be considered....It would be great to be able to add a....*Virus and Trojan Free* icon to this site, next to the one for spyware free.

Essencay said...I'd make it so that only WC subscribers could upload and downloadThis would be a great way for the site to do this if it was done.Screen savers are hard to find as we all know. A trust worthy place to get them (not just one at the cost) plus support a site. Wonderful!

No Fair what about the guys who can make screensavers but are not and cant afford wincust subscription....

UzEE, save up the money. It really is not expensive if you think about it. Under 3 cents a day.

XX: I can't seem to be able to download your XXSVGSaver program. When I click to download, it alaways bring me to this ProHosting page with this address in the location bar of Explorer: http://wave.prohosting.com/xxcoder/XXSvgSaver.zip . Although the URL says ZIP, nothing is downloading.  Just gets stuck on that page.

Yeah it's anti-direct linking. The site should have link to "real" file. Don't use any download managers, and I don't know if it will work with browsers other than IE.

Updated play list and SVG files. Those works much better as skin for screensaver than original editions I made while ago. If it goes to not found error, just add few spaces after URL and hit enter, then click on download link.

Not much left of it nowadys:

Magic ScreenSaver -> After Dark

The Magic Screensaver was an incredibly successful product for Windows 2.0 and Windows 3.0 that spawned the even more successful successor After Dark for Windows. Magic and After Dark created the market for screensavers more than 10 years ago. Magic 2000 is a 32-bit update to the original Magic ScreenSaver. It has been tested on Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows NT, Windows 2000 and Windows Me. http://www.dynamickarma.com/content/dki_products.htm

(The Magic Screensaver ran perfectly on my XP SP2, and yes I know that Berkely Systems is the company most people think of when hearing After Dark, but they did't make it.)

We can still get AfterDark? Where?
on Oct 20, 2004
No you can't get After Dark (as far as I know) but follow the link I provided in the post above (#41) and you can read all about it and downlaod the free predesessor to After Dark, Magic ScreenSaver and have your magic nostalgia kaleidoscope on your desktop.

Screensavers...

Ive got one question... Why?

I think we should spend time/bandwidth on something that people acually USE...Like say, Trillian.

I got this little guy stranded on an island that walks around doing crazy things. Sometimes when I'm bored I sit staring at my monitor trying to guess what the little man on the island will do next. At night I feel bad and have a hard time going to sleep because I wonder what it would be like if I was stranded on that little pixelated islanded. I have always wondered where he uses the restroom though....
